Joy in my Day

Recently, as I was driving in my car, I listened to an interview on CBC's Spark program, hosted by Nora Young.  The premise of the show, which originally aired in April 2011, discussed ways in which to transform your work and working environment.  While the entire show is worth a listen, it was Ingrid Fetell's interview that resonated the most with me.
Her blog, aesthetics of joy, explores "the intersection between design and positive emotion", and it is truly worth checking out.  The images are truly beautiful, but beyond that it is the message - to design your life with joy - that is truly inspiring.

I have awakened every morning and fallen asleep every night, since listening to that radio interview, deciding how I am designing joy into my life.  In every moment of my day - the smile from a wee one, a song being hummed from the back seat, dinner conversations with my little family, tickles before bed, the clothes I put on, the colour painted on the wall in the basement - I am actively creating and absorbing joy.

And so I will continue with this focus in the way that I approach my family, my home, myself.  Here's to 2012 and all that will come from it.
